Plastic Bags Banned as part of Northern Territory Climate Change Policy.

Date: 24-Dec-09
Author: Amy Nancarrow

The Northern Territory Government is set to phase out single use plastic bags.

This action sees the Territory Government following South Australia’s lead in banning plastic bags, and leading the charge against climate change by committing to becoming a carbon neutral organisation within eight years.

Territory Chief Minister Paul Henderson and the Climate Change Minister Karl Hampton launched the comprehensive $34 million Northern Territory Climate Change Policy on December 18.

Mr Hampton said the action areas are supported by targets that everybody can help achieve, including phasing out single-use plastic shopping bags and reducing the amount of waste going to our dumps.
